DJ REVISE
((Re:create Records))

A collage artist and sculptor in a former life, electronic music artist Revise melds and shapes different genres and sound sources into his own art form. Imagine if Amon Tobin and Prefuse 73 got together to remix Boards of Canada, with DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist looking on as producers. Palettes to Burn, his debut album, showcases the variety of colours and concepts of this meticulous producer and DJ. Revise (Sam Lawton) was born in Mud River, a remote area of Northern British Columbia, and raised by a blues fanatic father and an artistic mother. No neighbours and long bus rides were ever more reason to delve headfirst into music, starting with Hip-Hop masters Eric B. and Rakim, Marley Marl, Gang Starr, and EPMD. Immersed in Hip-Hop for many of his formative years, his musical taste took a life changing turn when his older brother introduced him to Aphex Twin. He became fascinated with electronic music and its many forms, bought turntables, and began writing his own music and performing in local venues.

At 21, Revise moved to Vancouver to release his music. His first mix, Re:visions, was well received, described as “taking your head on a cool, smooth, silvery trip” (Urb Magazine). IDJ dubbed his second mix, The 1980’s Revised, “one of the loopiest, most way out experiences IDJ has ever had”, and BPM Magazine named him winner of the 2004 "Next On The Decks" competition praising Revise's work as “one of the most innovative mixes this contest has received, hands down”. During these early years Revise promoted many events around Vancouver, including the successful club night Artificial Intelligence. His years of musical development and discovery have culminated into his current thesis on electronic music, Palettes to Burn, an album with 19 original compositions. Referencing both the bush parties of his youth and the wide variety of colours in his arsenal, Palettes to Burn is a cinematic experience featuring sounds from the wide spectrum of electronic music and collaborations with Vancouver artists Adaline and Michael Ackhurst. Sequenced with the flow of a mix tape, it is a Technicolor journey that gains momentum and energy as it progresses. Palettes to Burn will be released on Revise's record label, Re:create Records on March 5th, 2010. The album’s single, “Don’t Look Down” was recently licensed to a new CBC Television Pilot which will air in late spring 2010.
